Abstract

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common metabolic condition associated with maternal-fetal complications and an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the long term. Women with a history of GDM have approximately a tenfold higher likelihood of developing T2DM compared to women without glycemic alterations during pregnancy. This study aims to adapt the FINDRISC score, a widely validated tool for assessing T2DM risk, to the specific characteristics of post-GDM women. To achieve this, the abdominal circumference variable will be excluded and replaced by gestational weight gain, which is more representative of the gestational period. The study will be based on retrospective data from 176 women followed at the high-risk prenatal outpatient clinic of UNIFESP between 2021 and 2023. Sociodemographic, anthropometric, laboratory, and clinical variables, such as blood glucose, blood pressure, and lipid profile, will be analyzed. It is expected that this adaptation will make the score more sensitive and specific for this population, enabling more effective and personalized preventive interventions. This project aims to contribute to reducing the incidence of T2DM, improving health outcomes for these women, and facilitating cost-effective and targeted monitoring strategies.
