Abstract

This internship project in Granada, Spain, aims to fill methodological gaps discovered during field research in Brazil, and to implement the multimodal perspective to ethnographically analyze contemporary belonging among organized fans that are also samba schools. The proposed methodological expansion, in dialogue with Multimodal Anthropology, is based on the ethnographic experience of the current project (2022/14384-4), and its audiovisual production in the field as an important vector of interlocution relationships, and visual and sound expression of the forms of sociability present in the daily dynamics of the Torcidas-Escolas. Understanding that the paths opened up in the field suggest an extension of ethnographic production to multiple forms of observation, analysis and feedback beyond the text, the project includes a period of internship at the Multimodal Anthropology Laboratory (LAM) at the University of Granada (UGR), under the supervision of Dr. Dario Ranocchiari, coordinator of the LAM. From this 12-month dialogue (06/2025 to 06/2026) between Spain and Brazil, it is hoped that the ethnography of football fans will gain important methodological updates from the perspective of multimodal ethnography, as well as developing internationalization connections in research in the areas of Anthropology of Sports Practices and Visual Anthropology.
