Abstract

Doxorubicin (DOXO) is recognized as a highly effective drug to treat cancer, an increasingly prevalent disease worldwide. However, DOXO is also associated with a cardiotoxic effect that leads to heart failure. In this regard, experimental models are extremely important for understanding the cardiac changes induced by DOXO; however, faces challenges regarding the standardization of drug administration routes, dosage and frequency, which makes it difficult to understand the detailed mechanisms involved in DOXO-induced cardiotoxicity. Therefore, given the obstacles imposed by existing experimental models, this study proposes to carry out a serial echocardiographic analysis in female rats submitted to DOXO in different routes and dosages, seeking not only to establish a standardized model for the application of DOXO, but to promote an analysis that allows the understanding of the cardiac alterations caused by this chemotherapy.
