Abstract

Rheumatological diseases (RD) affect the musculoskeletal system, such as joints, and other organs, with manifestations resulting in a range of symptoms such as joint stiffness, fatigue and pain. Among the treatments for these diseases, health education is an important tool for treating this population, recommended as the initial step in treatment. However, this practice requires an understanding of the target population, through strategies that allow its effectiveness. Health literacy (HL) are cognitive and social skills that determine the motivation and ability of individuals to obtain access, understand and use information, resulting in good health outcomes. In addition to health literacy, self-efficacy (SE), defined as a set of beliefs that create the expectation in an individual can perform a specific action, and that this action may generate good results, is an important variable that is related to better quality of life results and the individual's persistence in health treatments. The study aims to assess whether SE is related to the HL level of individuals with RD, and to establish whether there is a relationship between these two variables and their adherence to a physical exercise program. This is a cross-sectional observational study involving volunteers over the age of 18, of both sexes, diagnosed with RD. The outcomes regarding SE and HL levels will be assessed using the Perceived General Self-Efficacy Scale, the 14-item Health Literacy Scale (HLS-14) and the Newest Vital Sign (NVS) questionnaires. Volunteers participated in an exercise program, where adherence to physical therapy treatment will be assessed and related to the SE and HL variables. Initially, the statistical distribution of the data, homoscedasticity and sphericity will be verified using the Shapiro-Wilk, Levene and Mauchly tests, respectively. To calculate the correlation between the variables: health literacy, self-efficacy and adherence to physiotherapy treatment, the Pearson correlation coefficient test will be used. A significance level of 5% (p ¿ 0.05) will be adopted for all analyses.
