Abstract

Textur is a parallel and comparable corpus (Portuguese-English) composed of scientific abstracts from three tourism national journals, aligned with their translations, and three international tourism journals, published from 2018 to 2021. As part of the project, a terminological research is developed in order to create a Bilingual Glossary containing terms from the Scientific Field of Tourism. TEXTur was conceived as a dynamic corpus. New terminological research is needed to complement the glossary and keep it up to date with terminology development. In 2024, a first methodological update proposal was developed and applied, by compiling and extracting terms from the texts published in 2022 from the three national journals used in the research. Based on the results and limitations observed, the updating methodological proposal was redesigned. Thus, the aim of this research project is to test the new scope of the corpus updating methodology, which consists of analyzing, compiling and extracting terms from the abstracts published in 2023 in six journals, identifying terms that have not appeared in the previous surveys, i.e. the new themes that have gained prominence in the field of Tourism (2018-2021 and 2022). The theoretical and methodological foundations are based on Corpus Linguistics (Berber Sardinha, 2000; Tagnin, 2013), Terminology/Terminography (Cabré, 1993, 1999; Barros, 2004; Krieger; Finatto, 2004) and studies on the scientific genre (Swales, 1990; Marcuschi, 2002; Feltrim, 2004; Feltrim et al., 2004; Swales and Feak; 2009). To extract and identify terms we will use the program WordSmith Tools, criteria for terms identification provided by literature and a questionnaire for experts' evaluation. As a result, we expect to contribute to updating the corpus (2023), complementing the glossary and improving the methodology for the corpus updating.
