Abstract

Research on the role of women in the interactions between Indigenous peoples and individuals from the African Diaspora in the Historical Archaeology of São Paulo remains scarce (cf. SALLUM, 2022; NOELLI & SALLUM, 2019). These interactions, which began in the 16th century, led to the formation of communities that were demographically significant or dominant in certain areas of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo. These communities provided food, medicinal plants, raw materials, protein (from fishing, hunting, and livestock), ceramic vessels, and other material goods that constituted part of the household belongings of the majority of the population (ZANETTINI & WICHERS, 2009; MUNSBERG, 2018; HORA et al., 2020; MANFRINI, 2021). In some areas, these practices endured until the mid-20th century, while in others, they persist to the present day. This project aims to conduct a bibliographic survey and systematize information on material culture and its Indigenous and Quilombola nomenclatures in textual, oral, and iconographic sources (TOLSON, 2014). The objective is to understand aspects that highlight these interactions in everyday practices of food preparation, material production, and the transmission of knowledge.
