Abstract

This project aims to contribute to the area of History of Historiography from the study of the role of the Brazilian historian and professor Hélio Vianna (1908-1972) in the creation and composition of historical organizations and events that occurred between the 1940s and 1950s. It is intended to analyze, through documentation based on the Edgard Leuenroth Archive (AEL), the participation of Hélio Vianna in the founding projects of a National History Commission (1954) and a Historical Research Institute (1949) at the Faculdade Nacional de Filosofia of the Universidade do Brasil, as well as at the Seminario sobre la Enseñanza de la Historia, held in 1954 in Puerto Rico under the organization of the Panamerican Institute of History and Geography and UNESCO. It is intended, therefore, to understand in more detail the role of the historian in national historiography, to ask to what extent the participation in such organizations may have enabled his historiographical project and In addition, to contribute to a better understanding of the paths taken by national historiography in a period of intermission, which preceded the establishment of scientific and institutionalized research within the universities.
