Abstract

Gas sensors based on semiconductor materials have been used since the early 1970s. In recent years, however, the development of nanotechnology and new two-dimensional materials has opened new perspectives for the development of faster, more accurate, and reliable sensors that can be used in portable devices for applications in areas such as industrial safety, environmental monitoring, medical diagnosis, among others. Moreover, the concepts of the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 have been pointed out as a new technological revolution that should further increase the demand for new technologies for the monitoring of gaseous species. Graphene-based materials have already shown potential for applications as gas sensors, and many graphene-based nanocomposites are being developed for this purpose. In this context, this work proposes the development of nanocomposites based on laser-induced graphene and semiconductor metal oxide nanoparticles for the manufacture of flexible gas sensors. The obtained materials will be tested for their ability to detect three common pollutants: ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) both in a dry environment and in real humidity conditions during an internship abroad.
