Abstract

Malocclusion is a disorder of multifactorial origin, which can be caused by the interaction of several factors, such as the presence of harmful habits, respiratory disorders, genetic factors, among others. Its prevalence ranks as the third most common dental public health problem, only behind caries and periodontal disease. The occlusal development phase presents many biological events resulting from craniofacial growth, as well as the change of teeth. Because it is a long period, external factors can interfere. Therefore, the objective of this study will be to evaluate the development of malocclusion in the transition phase from deciduous to permanent dentition. The sample will consist of 121 children evaluated in 3 time points: T0 at 5 years of age, T1 at 8 years of age and T3 at 16 years of age, with T0 and T1 already evaluated in previous years. In addition to malocclusion, oral habits will be collected through a questionnaire. These results are expected to help us understand the behavior of malocclusion development at this stage, as well as associate it with the main causal factors. (AU)
