Abstract

Design: A total of 42 previously selected patients with a history of liver transplantation for the treatment of secondary biliary cirrhosis (SBC), resulting from bile duct injuries sustained during cholecystectomies, will be analyzed. A retrospective study will be conducted using data collected from both transplanted patients and their respective donors. Objectives: To evaluate how liver transplantation influences the progression of patients with secondary biliary cirrhosis following bile duct injury during previous cholecystectomy. Background: Bile duct injury (BDI) is a serious and frequent complication of cholecystectomies. Some patients may develop secondary biliary cirrhosis (SBC) in the long term. Liver transplantations come as the only treatment available for this disease profile. Methods: Observational retrospective study from a prospective LT database. 42 patients who developed SBC after a cholecystectomy between January 1986 and December 2024 were included. Long-term outcomes were analyzed. (AU)
