The collection "Memórias da Escravidão em Famílias Negras em São Paulo" is the result of a research project carried out in 1987-1988 that brings together life stories from three generations of black families in the state of São Paulo, preserving the collective memory of the time of captivity the centenary of the abolition of slavery. The research project intends to investigate, based on collective memory, valuing the oral sources of accounts of the lives of black families, the perception of freed slaves about the entry of European immigrants into the state of São Paulo during the post-abolition period and its effects on racial and social relations.
