Abstract

Quantum gases experiments offers an unique platform where its properties (number of atoms, temperature, shape of the atomic density, interaction between particules, etc.) can be precisely tuned. In particular, the system dimensionality could be modelled making it possible to study physcial phenomena related to one- (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) systems. In the former, effective 2D systems are experimentally produced by strongly confining a three-dimensional (3D) gas in one direction of space froozing its spatial degrees of freedom in that direction. Usually, this confinement is done with standard optical lattices produced by the intererence pattern of conter-propagating laser beams. In this project, we propose to follow the setup described in Ville et al. with the design of an accordion lattice with tunable interfringe spacing. Aditional dynamical control of both position and intensity of the interference pattern making the lattice will assure an excellent reproducibility desired when producing 2D quantum gases. (AU)
