Abstract

Wounds that are difficult to heal are a common problem in horses, especially in the limbs. This characteristic is due to a series of particularities of the species, but one of the main factors that cause delayed healing is the presence of infection. Some natural oils have stood out as good alternatives for the treatment of infections, given their antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Through this study, we intend to evaluate the efficiency of the antisepsis protocol with alcoholic chlorhexidine in comparison to Bubble Dry®, a product that contains tea tree oil, argan oil, avocado oil, coconut oil and D-panthenol, in terms of durability in microbial control of the surgical field of horses, through analysis of the microbiological characteristics of the skin. The collections will be carried out on 8 to 12 healthy horses, the first on the hair, the second after performing the trichotomy, the third after performing the antisepsis and the rest over the next two hours, at 20-minute intervals until the 120-minute duration is completed. Finally, the microbiological evaluation of the collections will be carried out to assess the antiseptic action of each product. (AU)
