Abstract

Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often face significant challenges in emotional regulation, cognitive and behavioral rigidity, which impacts their social skills and increases vulnerability to risky behaviors. The aim of this project is to explore the application of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to promote emotional and social regulation skills in individuals with ASD, as well as to investigate Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT-RO) as a complementary approach, focusing on reducing cognitive and behavioral rigidity in profiles characterized by high levels of self-control and emotional withdrawal. To achieve this, a systematic review of the literature will be conducted based on PRISMA guidelines, with pre-registration in the PROSPERO system. The research will include articles that address methods, acceptance, and efficacy of both approaches in children, adolescents, and adults with autism. The characteristics of the interventions, including implementation contexts and evidence of the benefits and limitations of each approach, will be examined. It is expected that the results of this systematic review will broaden the knowledge of mental health professionals and identify potential gaps and opportunities to optimize the support offered to individuals with ASD.
