Abstract

Introduction: Climate change is the main health concern today, especially the increase in average global temperature. On hotter days, the body's thermoregulation occurs, which can lead to dehydration and kidney stress. Because the diagnosis of kidney injuries is made more difficult by the emergence of more visible symptoms when there is a worsening of the individual's health condition and by the possibility of urological complications, which can progress to acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease, it is important to understand whether there is a correlation between climate and hospitalizations due to kidney disease. Objective: evaluate the influence of climate variation on the number of hospitalizations and deaths due to kidney disease. Methodology: this is an observational, retrospective, consecutive and non-probabilistic study, which will include data on hospitalizations and deaths due to kidney failure and urolithiasis. These data will be collected from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIHSUS), between January 2022 and December 2024, in public and private hospitals in Campinas (SP). In addition, climate data, published by the Center for Meteorological and Climate Research Applied to Agriculture (CEPAGRI), will be collected in the same time window. Comparative analyses are expected to be carried out with demographic and clinical variables from SIHSUS, and with climate variables from CEPAGRI, using scatter plots and Pearson's correlation coefficient.
