Abstract

This project aims to experimentally investigate the heat transfer coefficient, and temperature and velocity fields during the natural convection of supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) in common geometries, comprising flat plates and cylinders under uniform heat flux conditions. Experiments will be performed for reduced pressures and temperatures ranging from 0.95 to 1.10 and 0.90 to 1.10, respectively. It is planned to evaluate conditions of heat fluxes between 1 and 20 kW/m², imposed by electrical heaters through Joule effect. Experiments will be performed for horizontal and vertical cylinders with external diameters ranging between 5 and 15 mm, and vertical and inclined flat plates up to 150 mm long. The velocity and temperature fields will be experimentally evaluated based on Schlieren images captured with a high-speed video camera, followed by cross-correlation analysis. Based on the experimental results, it is expected to develop and/or adjust predictive methods and models. (AU)
