Abstract

The digital transformation of the offshore industry, driven by the adoption of remote control systems, has brought significant gains in efficiency and safety. However, these advances also introduce new operational risks, particularly in critical contexts where human factors play a decisive role. This work proposes an innovative approach to assess the influence of human and environmental factors on the safety of remote offshore operations through the application of artificial intelligence and multimodal sensors.As part of the Offshore Technology Innovation Centre (OTIC), the project leverages technologies such as computer vision, physiological sensors, and voice pattern analysis to capture real-time behavioral and physiological data from operators. These data are analyzed using artificial intelligence techniques to identify patterns related to cognitive overload, stress, and other conditions that may compromise operational safety.To validate the proposed methodology, an immersive simulation environment will be developed, integrated with digital twins, enabling the realistic reproduction of various operational scenarios under controlled conditions. The approach allows for the quantification of human factor impacts in emergency situations and contributes to advancements in human reliability analysis.As an outcome, the project aims to provide more accurate tools for risk assessment and decision-making support, fostering a stronger safety culture in automated and remote offshore operations.
