Abstract

The aim is to map the infrastructure-related growth of the urban fabric in Brazilian cities and possible alternatives for nature-based solutions. The research is structured on two fronts: the first investigates how different infrastructures - roads, railroads, ports and airports - influence the growth of the urbanized area in 24 Brazilian municipalities pre-selected in previous research (PIBIC-CNPq). Given the evidence of their impact on climate events, the second front - which is focused on internationalizing the debate - maps international experiences in urban planning and climate resilience strategies, with a focus on Nature-Based Solutions (NbSI) as a means of understanding how international alternatives have dealt with urban expansion and dispersion. This comparative dimension aims to broaden the theoretical and methodological repertoire, especially in the face of climate challenges. Methodologically, the research is structured around a multi-criteria analysis of urban forms, bibliographical research, research into primary sources and the creation of diagrams and cartographies. As a result, the research proposes the creation of an atlas that brings together cartographies of the cases analyzed (related to infrastructure and NbSI) with analyses and diagrams with the aim of offering a tool for urban and regional planning.
