Abstract

Pharmaceuticals are emerging contaminants currently found in the aquatic environment. The necessity of improving the effluents treatment is an urgent matter. With this context, the objective of this project is to study the combination of advanced oxidative process and adsorption treatments of a multicomponent system of emerging contaminants. The proposal of combining water treatments technologies is to improve the treatment and combine the best advantages of each treatment. This project will also be divided in two subprojects: (1) combination of these water treatment to treat a multicomponent system of emerging contaminants (antipyrine, carbamazepine, and iopamidol); (2) combination of these water treatment to treat a mixture of two beta-blockers (propranolol and metoprolol), whose effluent will be study through their toxicity in the University of Aveiro (Portugal).
