Abstract

This research aims to investigate the typographic characteristics found in Protestant cemeteries of British and German origin in Portugal, comparing them with Brazilian cases in order to identify shared repertoires and cultural particularities expressed in tombstone inscriptions. The methodology combines qualitative and quantitative approaches, including on-site data collection in cemeteries located in Lisbon, Porto, and Madeira through structured forms. The analysis will focus on elements such as typeface families, alignments, and relief techniques, followed by the systematic organization of the information into a digital database. As expected results, the project seeks to produce an unprecedented mapping of Protestant memorial typographies in Portugal and to contribute to the discussion on design, history, and cemetery heritage through the lens of cultural identity within the Luso-Brazilian context.
