Abstract

This project proposes a critical investigation of the medieval resonances in ten works of 20th-century French literature, placing the legend La Volonté du Roi Krogold, by Louis-Ferdinand Céline, in the broader context of other narratives that revisit medieval forms, themes, and iconographies. Based on the notion of cartography developed by Deleuze and Guattari, the study seeks to map how these elements are reappropriated by modern authors to elaborate existential, political, and aesthetic questions specific to the 20th century. Works by authors such as Charles Péguy, Fernand Pouillon, Marguerite Yourcenar, Michel Tournier, and Georges Duby, among others, will be analyzed, considering the dynamics of territorialization and deterritorialization that structure the displacements and recreations of the medieval tradition. The research aims to understand how the medieval period operates as a field of tensions and reinventions in modern literature. The project's hypothesis is that medieval themes are spaces of transformation within the scope of 20th-century literature.
