Abstract

The assistive technology sector in Brazil is underdeveloped and heavily reliant on imports. Consequently, the high cost of prostheses available through the Unified Health System (SUS) and the national market limits access for people with disabilities. In this context, the present project, linked to the Center for Assistive Technology for Activities of Daily Living (CTECVIDA), aims to develop a wheelchair whose key innovation lies in its adaptability. The project aims to create wheelchair designs capable of incorporating customized postural adjustments tailored to each user's specific requirements. The project will employ polymer composite materials to achieve this goal. Three components of a commercial wheelchair will be developed using polymer composites: backrest, seat, and armrest. These components will be designed to integrate postural positioning devices produced by the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IMREA) of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP). (AU)
