Abstract

Although associated with large urban centers, the phenomenon of favelization also affects cities of various scales in the interior of São Paulo. Urban development processes in municipalities such as Bauru, Marília, São José do Rio Preto and Presidente Prudente led to the emergence of the first irregular occupations between the 1960s and 1970s. The intervention strategies have changed over the decades, including the alternatives of removal - followed or not by the relocation of this population to housing developments and allotments - reurbanization and land regularization. The purpose of the research will be to analyze the historical and geographical specificities of the dynamics of informal and precarious urbanization in regional capitals of size B and C located in the interior of the state of São Paulo, with special attention to the dynamics that have influenced the patterns of intervention in slums and precarious settlements in these cities. It also seeks to contribute to the academic debate on the heterogeneity and complexity of these urban processes, considering their local particularities and their insertion in the broader dynamics of São Paulo's urbanization. Methodologically, the qualitative research comprises a literature review on the subject, data collection and systematization, and analysis of official sources (legislation, housing and urbanization programs, etc.).
