Abstract

The present research proposal aims to study how the HIV/AIDS epidemic impacted the existing social interactions among homosexuals and men who engage in homoerotic practices. The research focuses on the period frame from 1980 to 1996 and is geographically centered on the city of São Paulo, justified by the presence of a vibrant and visible gay life. To conduct the research, we use oral history as primary sourc, collecting interviews with men who were part of these spaces homosexual and homoerotic sociability. We aim to understand how the epidemic affected social interactions, how responses were formulated, and how this impact influenced the lives and sexualities of these individuals. This proposal is justified by the observation of a gap in the historiography of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, where the aspect of sociability and its impacts have been addressed only tangentially. Thus, it is expected to contribute to the topic. (AU)
