Abstract

Introduction: Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in the world and in Brazil among women. It is a global public health problem resulting from genetic alterations and lifestyle habits, such as: excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, early menarche, nulliparity, first pregnancy after 30 years, menopause after 55 years, prolonged use of oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy after menopause for more than five years, and family history. Advances in medicine have led to early diagnosis and a greater variety of treatment options, and technology has brought greater access to information; the biggest challenge is to understand how satisfactory the information received by these patients is. Understanding informational satisfaction can improve the quality of the information received and the patient's understanding of their disease and treatment, as well as improve their autonomy. Objective: To characterize the informational satisfaction of breast cancer patients undergoing outpatient treatment and to evaluate the resources they use to obtain information. Method: Descriptive-exploratory research with a qualitative-qualitative approach to data. The population will be composed of men and women with a confirmed diagnosis of breast cancer, over 18 years old, in the diagnostic or treatment phase. Data collection will occur through interviews, using a sociodemographic questionnaire to characterize the sample, the EORTC-QLQ INFO25 and a semi-structured interview to deepen the understanding of their informational experiences and perceptions of satisfaction.
