Abstract

The careful management and conservation of ecosystems are crucial for providing ecosystem services that support human well-being and sustainable development. Not only the amount of natural areas, but also the configuration of habitat patches-particularly their distribution, size, and shape-can significantly affect the delivery of ecosystem services. This is because natural patches are arranged in landscape mosaics, interacting horizontally at their edges with anthropogenic land uses shaped by different management models, which can potentially impact conservation to varying degrees. In this context, this proposal aims to investigate how different types of anthropogenic matrices influence the role of patch mosaics and their boundaries in providing key ecosystem services that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
