Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance is a global public health issue that threatens the effectiveness of infection treatment. Not all resistance genes found in the environment pose an immediate risk to public health; however, the greater the anthropogenic impact, the higher the occurrence of resistance genes typically associated with hospital settings. These genes can persist silently in less polluted environments through environmental bacteria. The aim of this proposal is to characterize the microbiome, mobilome, resistome, and their associated risks, as well as to investigate the sharing of resistance genes in river water, soil, and fish in the Tembe¿ community region, in Pará, Brazil. To achieve this, we will conduct a metagenomic study of samples from this community, generating risk-relevant information for the regional context and contributing to the understanding and mitigation of antimicrobial resistance.
