Abstract

This project is linked to a doctoral research that aims to compare the novels Lost Children Archive (2019), by Mexican author Valeria Luiselli, and Quarenta Dias (2014), by Brazilian writer Maria Valéria Rezende. Both novels are displacement narratives that portray migration movements happening in The United States and in Brazil, countries in which the stories are set, while also using different intertextual sources to create an archive of this displacement. This research internship, then, aims to analyze these novels based on theories related to the space "in-between" (Santiago, 2000) since both of them bring themes, characters, and structure that belong to what can be called a Literature of the "third space" (Hanciau, 2005), a notable characteristic of contemporary Latin-American Literature. Therefore, having this research conducted at University of Georgia can bring substantial benefits for the thesis development, considering the culture exchange it can promote and the contact with new bibliographic material, mainly related to displacement narratives, documental fiction, and Inter-American studies. Furthermore, this exchange program can provide the opportunity of conducting an interview with author Valeria Luiselli, who currently lives in the United States. The finding of materials and experiences, then, may contribute enormously to the main doctoral research being developed. (AU)
