Abstract

Introduction: Sjögren's Disease (SjD) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by chronic inflammation of exocrine glands, predominantly affecting the salivary and lacrimal glands. SjD can be classified as primary or secondary when associated with other autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. The systemic activity of the disease can be measured using the EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (ESSDAI). Recently, the Systemic Immune-Inflammatory Index (SII) has been studied as an inflammatory biomarker in various autoimmune diseases based on hematological parameters. Accessible and low-cost biomarkers, such as SII, may assist in evaluating the systemic involvement of the disease. However, the relationship between SII and ESSDAI remains underexplored. Objective: To analyze the association between the SII and the degree of primary SjD activity as measured by the ESSDAI. Methodology: This is a retrospective cross-sectional study based on the analysis of electronic medical records of patients treated at the Rheumatology outpatient clinic of the Hospital das Clínicas, São Paulo State University (UNESP), Medical School, Botucatu. Participants will be divided into a group of patients with primary SjD and a control group of healthy individuals. Inclusion criteria will follow the ACR/EULAR (2016) guidelines. Data collected will include demographic variables, laboratory parameters (neutrophils, lymphocytes, and platelets for SII calculation), and clinical data (ESSDAI domains). Statistical analysis will include association, normality, and correlation tests, with a significance level of p<0.05.
