Abstract

Favelas represent historically marginalized territories due to the exclusion of thelocal population from decision-making processes on public policies. In this context,there is a growing need to rethink traditional models of urban planning and managementand seek new forms of citizen participation and mobilization of communitiesin these territories. This research seeks to analyze how Participatory Planning and Associated Management (PPGA) methodologiesParticipatory Planning and Associated Management (PPGA), systematized from aseries of participatory experiences in Latin America, can contribute to expandingsocial participation and democratically influencing public policies in favelas. Theproject employs a qualitative approach, combining theoretical analyses ofurban planning and social participation with case studies in marginalized territories. The research is based on the hypothesis that the adoption of PPGA in favelascan strengthen citizen participation and create new forms of political andinstitutional articulation that would enhance advances in public and social management in these spaces.
