Abstract

The population aging has led to health care professionals they need for a better understanding of the body of the elderly, because their organic changes, psychological and functional make this a particular patient, whose evaluation and care should take into account their specificities and limitations. The objectives of this study are to ascertain the prevalence of chronic diseases, medication use, cognitive ability, and functional, in addition to the oral conditions of 160 institutionalized elderly nursing homes of São Francisco de Assis, in Araraquara - SP, establishing the degree of correlation of switches oral health with other health indicators. To this end, the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) will be used for screening cognitive impairment, the degree of functional dependency is established by basic and instrumental activities of daily living and conditions determined by the presence of oral lesions, DMFT, number of root caries, number of teeth and use and need of prostheses. With the knowledge of the variables mentioned, we better understand the population by setting up parameters of the dental approach.(AU)
