Abstract

Researches on High-Speed Cutting (HSC) have been carried out in scientific laboratories and industries for 15 years approximately. However, generally, most of results aim at productivity, costs, cutting tool performance, numerical command and machine-tools efficiency. Few works objective to study possible HSC effects on machinability of the product. Given this lack, this project aims to investigate if HSC milling causes some influence on specific cutting pressure of machined workpiece. Specifically, this research will objective the study of HSC end milling of low carbon steel with ultrafine grains thermal-mechanincally processed by warm rolling at Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). Machining Research Group (GPU) at Engineering Faculty of Ilha Solteira (FEIS/UNESP), where this project will be developed, has a partnership with Thermal-Mechanical Processing Laboratory (TermoMec) of Materials Engineering Department (DEMa/UFSCar) for studies in machinability of new materials. A scientific agreement was established due to FAPESP project named "Jovem Pesquisador", which led to the GPU nucleation by means of investment in professionals and infrastructure at FEIS/UNESP. (AU)
