Abstract

Bisphosphonates, analogues of endogenous pyrophosphonate, are a group of drugs used to treat a variety of metabolic bone diseases, as osteoporosis. Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a new and emerging complication of bisphosphonate therapy that is associated with significant morbidity, and often requires symptomatic management for palliation in certain patients. This study will the analyze the expression of the protein OPG, RANK and RANKL as cellular markers of predisposition to resorption or formation of bone tissue in the process of alveolar regeneration in OVX rats treated with zoledronic acid.
