Abstract

Local anesthetics (LA) are amphiphile molecules that reversibly bind to the sodium channel of excitable membranes, curbing nervous impulse propagation. An ideal LA molecule should have long duration and low toxicity. This project aims to prepare and to characterize a new drug-delivery system with polylactide-glycolide nanoparticles (50:50 PLGA) for dibucaine designed to enhance its pharmacological properties looking forward future clinical application. In that way we intend: 1) To characterize PLCA nanospheres containing dibucaine; 2) to prepare and to characterize PLGA nanocapsules of dibucaine. Finally we state that this project is part of a thematic project entitled "New formulations for the controlled release of local anesthetics in dentistry: from development to clinical tests" (FAPESP 2006/00121-9).
