Abstract The problem to be treated is about the repositioning of the image of a seismic reflector when the migration velocity is varied. The kinematics of this repositioning can be described by a differential equation, the so-called image-wave equation. In this project, it is intended to study the numerical solution of this equation for nonzero-offset data by using a finite-difference method, including the corresponding investigations on stability and convergence of the finite-difference schemes to be developed.
