Abstract

The objective of this research project is to continue the investigations made by the Pierre Auger Collaboration on the ultra-high energy cosmic radiation. Accordingly, it is intended to give an emphatic approach to problems related to large and small scale anisotropies. Anisotropy of a large scale will be studied combining the method of the Moment of Inertia with standard techniques such as statistical discriminant analysis, while anisotropy related to point sources are studied using wavelets transforms on the sphere, with the aim to amplify the signal to noise ratio when transposed from the real to the wavelet space. Moreover, we intend to apply wavelets for identification of filament structures (multiplets) resulted from magnetic fields. In terms of improvements planned for the experiment, we want to develop components and software to be employed in the AMIGA project, extension of the Auger Observatory to increase the sensitivity of the apparatus to the composition of primary cosmic rays that initiate the extensive air shower.
