Abstract

This research is part of the global environment and recently Brazil, the increase in obesity as a result of new and worse habits. The Pesquisa de Orçamentos Familiares (POF) 2002-2003 raised the country has about 38.6 million people above the recommended weight, equivalent to 40.6% of its adult population. Of this total, 10.5 million are obese. With the alarming statistics of obesity, the immediate concerns came from health professionals, little time was needed but for that matter extrapolated to the social sciences. This is because the seriousness of the problem can be raised to think about obesity as being responsible for the effects of externalities on society as a whole, especially when considering the possibility statistically significant direct impacts on the labor market. The project is part of the line of research of increasing importance in the chain of public policy proposals to analyze, formulate and estimate the economic question of the impact of obesity on participation in employment and wages. Is intended to answer whether there are effects of obesity on wages by an empirical analysis of multivariate regression models and likelihood of employment. All data will be collected from Pesquisa de Orçamentos Familiares (POF) 2002-2003.
