Abstract Developmental stuttering is a pathology that begins in childhood, during the phase of language acquisition and development and is characterized as being chronic. The aim of the present study is to verify the influence of linguistic aspects in the occurrence of speech disruptions of stuttering and fluent adolescents and adults. Participants of this study will be 100 adolescents with ages between 12.0 and 17.11 years (50 male and 50 female), and 100 adults with ages between 18.0 and 59.11 years (50 male and 50 female), residents in the city of São Paulo. Participants will be divided in four groups: research group I (RG.I) with 50 adolescents with the diagnosis of stuttering; research group II (RG.II) with 50 adults with the diagnosis of stuttering; control group I (CG.I) with 50 fluent adolescents; control group II (CG.II) with 50 fluent adults. All groups will be paired by age and gender. This research will be divided in three separate studies. The purpose of Study I will be to investigate the typology of speech disruptions and the grammatical class of these disruptions in the speech of fluent and stuttering adolescents and adults. The purpose of Study II will be to verify the influence of syllabic stress and position of speech disruption within the words in the speech of fluent and stuttering adolescents and adults. The purpose of Study III will be to investigate if variations in word extension have an influence in the occurrence of speech disruptions and the position of speech disruptions within syllables. The results of these studies are pioneer and will enrich the knowledge about the influence of linguistic aspects in the speech fluency of fluent and stuttering adolescents and adults, aiming at a more precise diagnosis and an improvement in the effectiveness of existing treatments. | |
