Abstract

People are growing old. Sometimes their only possible survival is their being institutionalized. This situation interferes with these people's life quality. This study aims at understanding the life history of an institutionalized elderly group. It is a qualitative study. The data source will be the interviews with the elderly. Those who are in good cognitive condition will answer the guideline question, that is, the quality of their long-term stay in an institution. The interviews will be recorded and transcribed. The data analysis will be based on the theme content analysis. The authors expect that the results of this study will subsidize the development of social and health actions which aim at improving these people's life conditions.
