Abstract

This research proposal aims to test the viability of the "media diaries" as an evaluation process on media literacy education activities, particularly in the manner that students use and apply what they learn at classes in their personal and quotidian lives involving popular culture. The methodology consists of: 1. Selecting a group of ten students that attended classes of the project "Media literacy on Secondary Schools: reading and writing activities with teachers and pupils", which has been founded by Fapesp and executed at USC; 2. The group will receive orientations about how to fulfill the diary for two months; 3. The quantitative and qualitative data obtained with the analysis of the diaries will guide the production of a focus group, with the same students who made the diaries. The recording of the discussions will bring about qualitative information about how young people use the media and how them reflects about their ways of using. The nature and the consistence of the given answers will be analyzed as evidence of learning. (AU)
