Abstract

The main purpose of the project is to develop a Service of Psychological Consultations in the Psychological Clinic ‘Dr. Durval B. Marcondes` of the Clinical Department of the Institute of Psychology of the University of Sao Paulo. The need to develop such a Service with specific characteristics came as a consequence of previous findings regarding the impossibility of the ordinary kinds of treatments such as reception, assessment and psychotherapy to meet the demands of the Clinic. Such Service which consists of a circumscribed way to attend individuals can offer, on one hand, holding to the client and on the other, expand to a larger number of individuals the possibility of getting some attention. Due to the fact that it is a Clinic that belongs to the University, the project also aims to contribute to clinical training of graduation, post graduation and specialization students in this kind of psychological intervention. Part of the project started in 2003 when a brief questionnaire concerning clients expectations related to psychological intervention was elaborated. Also at that time some clients that were not able to be attended through the regular routine of the Clinic were attended with a focal psychoanalytical intervention. At that time, 90 questionnaires were applied and 8 clients were seen, with a variable number of sessions (with a maximum of 5). Data obtained with the questionnaires as well as derived from the sessions were analyzed and preliminary results seem to indicate the viability of the project considering both the Clinic substructure and the great receptivity showed by the clients regarding the focal intervention proposal. This research expects to enlarge the number of focal interventions and through quantitative (rates of clients that cease intervention and so on) as well as qualitative analysis of data obtained, evaluate its range of action and limitations.
