Abstract

The technology of blends production is correlated with the individual characteristics of each polymer. The main improvement obtained from polyamide-6 – PA6 / poly(vinyl butyral) – PVB is the impact resistance on PA6. However, others properties have to be analyzed. The UV resistance of polymeric materials is an important factor to be analyzed too, because it shows as these materials will behave in real applications. The photodegradation mechanism of most polymers is well known, however, polymeric blends still have few studies concerning them. This work intends to investigate and explain the photodegradation mechanism of PA6/PVB blend. The samples will be exposed for various irradiation intervals, and their properties like the mechanical, thermal and chemical ones, as well as chemical modifications, molecular weight, etc will be monitored.
