Abstract

Information Science and Librarianship study the processes, properties and uses of information. The information explosion, coupled with technologies of information and communication and the increasing digitization of information, required of these scientific interdisciplinary fields research about new ways to informational management. The popularization of the Internet has opened a new phase to what we call cyberspace: the Web 2.0. One of the characteristics of Web 2.0 is the growing use of Wiki systems for informational management on a collaborative way. The example more familiar of the Wiki utilization is the Wikipedia. In this environment the Collective Intelligence presents itself as an important social element on the interactions of the Web 2.0 and as a way for the consolidation of a knowledge society. How the Information Science (IS) is positioned forward the issues rose at the context of Web 2.0 and of the construction and mediation of the use of the Wikipedia is the problem of this research project. The objectives are: mapping the concepts of Wikis and Wikipedia at the repertoire of IS and identifying the characteristics of the Wiki environment and its similarities with the informational environments proposed by the Librarianship. It expected as a result expose the view that Information Science and Librarianship have about these new technologies and informational environments.
