Abstract The objective of this project is to develop amorphous Mg-based alloys to be applied as temporary biomaterial, that is, to act as a material which can be absorbed by the organism. The alloys to be studied are from the system magnesium - calcium - zinc, and the compositions will be chosen using the topological instability criterion ("lambda criterion"), developed by our group, to select compositions which are good candidates to form amorphous structure under conditions of low cooling rate. The project involves the choice of compositions, production of the different alloys by rapidly solidification process using a "melt-spinning" apparatus or cooling in copper mold, the thermal and structural characterization, by DSC and DRX and the mechanical characterization by compression tests. | |
