Escala Diagnóstica Adaptativa Operacionalizada de auto-relato (EDAO-R-AR): convergent validity and reliability

Abstract

The current investigation is part of a research program whose broad objective is the development of a self-report version of the Escala Diagnóstica Adaptativa Operacionalizada - Redefinida (EDAO-R). The EDAO-R is a psychological scale designed to provide a measure of how efficiently an individual is coping with his or her life's vicissitudes, or how efficient is the individual's adaptation. Based on data from a clinical interview two dimensions of personality are assessed: affective-relational (A-R) and productivity (Pr). The individual's efficiency of adaptation is classified according to five levels, from efficiently adapted (adaptação eficaz) to deeply maladapted (adaptação ineficaz grave). For the self-report version of the EDAO-R, or EDAO-R-AR, items are being developed for two dimensions: A-R and Pr. The aim of this study is to gather evidence of test retest reliability and convergent validity of the EDAO-R-AR, from a sample of university students. At least 60 students, from different graduate schools of PUC-Campinas, independently of sex and age, are expected to voluntarily integrate the sample. Participants will be invited to an individual interview conducted by the researcher to the assessment of the EDAO-R and yet will be asked to answer to the EDAO-R-AR. After one month, participants will be invited for retesting. Two independent judges (the researcher and a member of the group of research) will assess the EDAO-R. An exploratory data analyses will describe the distribution of participants according to sex, age and graduate school. Relating to the EDAO-R-AR, it will be estimated the respective range of scores, mode, median, mean, and standard deviation. Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficients of the EDAO-R-AR will be estimated for test retest reliability and convergent validity, considerng the total sample and sub-samples, divided according to sex and the courses of participants. The umbrella project was approved by the Ethic Committee for Research with Human Beings of PUC-Campinas (Protocol 720/09). The A-R and Pr dimensions of the EDAO-R are expected to positively correlate with scores of the corresponding dimensions of the EDAO-R-AR.
