Abstract The demand for high performance computing (HPC) systems, such as grids, has been growing during the last years, either in scientific or commercial applications, where users are not, usually, experts in high performance programming. This use creates a large demand for tools aimed at systems development, as well as performance analysis. In this particular, it is known that performance analysis can be done through simulation models. Unfortunately, the available tools can not provide ease of use and model generation, specially for the non-expert user. This situation is even worse for computer grids, where the existing simulators lack of capabilities that enable variations on the diversity of simulated models and friendly interfaces. This project aims the specification and implementation of a grid simulation environment that enables the user to easily describe the characteristics of the grid under evaluation, as well as the metrics for its performance analysis. It will comprise the definition and implementation of an iconic modeling interface (freeing the user from knowing details about simulation modeling), a model interpreter, and the simulation engine itself.
