Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) affects almost all organs of the body, but the pulmonary form is epidemiologically important role for its transmissibility. In Brazil, about 26.7% of patients are treated without diagnostic confirmation for the disease, based only on clinical history and radiological findings. Thus, this study aims to analyze the process of examinations for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB, in Ribeirão Preto. Material and Methods: It will use a descriptive epidemiological study of cross-section from a quantitative approach. The study population will consist of all patients with pulmonary TB (on treatment, over 18 years in Ribeirão Preto), from January to April 2010. Data will be collected through interviews with them, using a structured questionnaire with scales of responses varied as classification, dichotomous, multiple choice single answer and summation (Likert scale with scores from 1 to 5). In addition, data will be collected from secondary sources: Information systems Hygia to lift all tests performed by patients in public health services in the municipality, and LAB-TB, to raise the number of slides taken in 2009 in Ribeirão Preto. For data analysis techniques will be used descriptive statistics (frequency distribution, mean, confidence intervals). Expected results: It is expected that the study contributes to the analysis of the process of examinations for the diagnosis of pulmonary TB, so that there is an improvement in the quality of the treatment to suspected cases of TB and for the early detection of cases.
