Abstract

It is intended in this work to study the São Paulo traditional samba, commonly identified as "Samba de Bumbo", which will be focused under the point of view the structural-musical, poetic and socio-contextual. The work will be based on research carried out by Mario de Andrade in Pirapora do Bom Jesus and São Paulo in the 1930s, and focuses on groups that currently practice this type of samba, which will have samples of his songs recorded, analyzed and compared in order to identify their characteristics, similarities and differences in areas such as instrumentation, melody, rhythm, harmony, and poetic and musical structure, this approach has not been done since Mario de Andrade´s works. In distinctive stages, will be studied eight groups taking part this genre of samba, and they are: in Quadra city , the group "Samba de Quadra," in Santana do Parnaíba, the groups "O Grito da Noite" and "Samba do Cururuquara" ; in the town of Vinhedo, the "Samba da Dona Aurora", in the city of Mauá," Samba de Lenço de Mauá, "in Rio Claro, the" Samba de Lenço "and two groups from the city of Pirapora do Bom Jesus, the "Samba de Roda" and "Vovô da Serra Japi".
