Abstract

To understand the environmental education like an ample and surrounding movement, sharp in a deep conception of Otherness and collectivity targeted to the citizenship, is an attempt to contribute with the discussion that does comes consolidating some time in the context of the social-ecologism and that many fields of knowledge like political science, sociology, anthropology and the education itself are acting with the depth and the transversality demanded by the subject. In that sense, the present study proposes a dialogue between the anthropology and the education, par excellence sites of the Otherness in its conception and practice, mainly when it is to understand the enigmas of this complex system of codes, symbols, language and life called culture. Through of the União dos Moradores da Juréia (UMJ) - collective movement around environmental rights established in 1990 in the State of São Paulo - the objective is to propose a reflection about how political projects and collective actions can occur through a new and ample sense of citizenship. One thinks that it is exactly in that relation between culture and policy that is the passage between the " Otherness", as recognition of the social existence in relation to the other, and the citizenship, as "social intervention" and sense of togetherness to the world; a sense based on the specificity and experience lived and not in the universe of the ideas and ideal representations.
