Abstract

The interest for nanosystems has grown in the last years due to the recent advances in experimental instrumentation and computational power. Today, the synthesis characterization and manipulation of nanometric systems is relatively well controlled, moreover the new capacities of theoretical treatment due to the computational advances. In particular, techniques as atomic force microscope (AFM) and scanning tunneling microscope (STM) can cover most of characterization and object manipulation in nanometric scale. In these instruments, said of scanning probe microscopy (SPM), one of the parts of the operation consists of approaching the sample of the probe tip. The objective of this scientific work is the construction of one of these systems for initial approach, based in piezo-actuators. The project will propitiate to the student contact with diverse important elements of development of instruments for scientific research and also it will generate valuable information for the development, already in progress in our group, of a STM facility.
